It's no secret that the fastest growing web properties are the social networking sites. Sites like Twitter, FaceBook, and Sokule are all the rave.
Part of the reason that these sites are so popular is that the Internet can be such a lonely place. People who run online businesses from home-based offices, as I do, sometimes want to just reach out to others who understand their world. So they drop by social networking sites "just to visit."
Marketers like me look at these sites with millions of users and wonder if they can't be used for something more than just socializing. We wonder if they can't have a business application as well.
Social networking purist will scream "NO." They will insist that you definitely should not sell on these sites. Others teach that you use these sites to build your brand, but lure people off these sites to your marketing site and into your sales funnel.
To those who wonder, "Can't I market while still being social?" my answer is "yes." The key is to do it in ways that feel natural (inoffensive) and in places where it's expected.
Let me give you two quick examples:
1) Many people on sites like Twitter and Facebook are constantly pointing out online videos to their friends. They notice videos on video-sharing sites such as YouTube that are inspirational, touching, or thought provoking, and they want to share them with their friends. They see music videos of their favorite songs, or maybe really sexy videos, and it's natural to share these with online friends that they know have similar interests.
What most people don't know is that there are many ways that they can get paid just by pointing out videos to their friends. I personally do this using the system at: http://GetPaidToShareVideos.com This system pay Google AdSense revenue, plus pays you in other ways just for doing something that you already do.
2) Jane Mark and Phil Basten noticed how popular Twitter was becoming, but also that Twitter wasn't designed for marketing. So they created a site very similar to Twitter, only it's set up to encourage you to market.
Key differences include that it allows members to add up to five links to their favorite sites, it allows members to add their Clickbank ID and display ads for Clickbank product on which they passively earn commission, and it allows members to earn a commission when free members upgrade to membership levels that make more tools available.
This site is called Sokule (pronounced "so cool"), and it is also set up to make it easier to gather a lot of followers. I have often told my students that they should not think of their Twitter following as a list - because they are not "a list." However, on Sokule, you can think of them as a list. Sokule is actually configured so that some levels of membership actually allow you to send a direct message to ALL of your followers.
You are only allowed to send a direct message to all of your followers once every three days, but that does make building a following much like building a mailing list on the platform. When you set up your Sokule account, you enter three areas of interest. Those following you can find you by searching the database for others interested in the same topics that they are interested in.
Presumably, those following you are interested in the same topics and would therefore welcome direct messages from you periodically. If not, they can always stop following you, just as they can on Twitter.

These are just two quick example of how you can get paid for doing thing that you are already doing on the social networking sites. As you can see though, the key is knowing which sites to use.
It is possible to earn more than many "Internet marketers" earn selling affiliate products, just by "being social."

Here are a few techniques I recommend:
1. Post comments on DoFollow blogs. You can get a plugin for the Firefox browser that will show you whether a blog is DoFollow or not.
2. Send articles to Ezine Articles and other good article directories like GoArticles.com. You are allowed two links in your author's bio. Use them!
3. Post on forums. Many allow you to have a signature file with links.
4. Try hard to get a link from a very important site. Education (.edu) sites are terrific. Check the Google ranking of sites in your niche. Offer an exclusive article to these if they allow you an linkback through your author bio.
I think the following methods are over-rated:
Website directories (article directories are ok)
Reciprocal links - just too much work involved in my opinion
Your blog: well, Google may give you credit once, but I doubt you get credit each time you post
Social networking: I don't think those linkbacks count with Google

Public Domain laws vary from country to country. For instance, what is not restricted in Canada may be restricted in England.
Works created before the copywrite and patent laws went into force are part of the public domain.
Works of the United States Government are excluded from copyright law. So, you can use anything published by the U.S. government in your articles, books and such without concern for legality if the work was prepared by a government employee. Thus, work by U.S. private contractors may not be in the public domain.

Be sure to put a strong "call to action" in your sales pages. Don't assume anything. Direct them to do what you want them to do. Join your newsletter? Take a poll? Call your phone? Ad guys call this "conversions." You need lots of them to succeed.
Test. Test Test. Change the color of the font on parts of your sales page. Use special words like "because" in your text. Try taking out all pictures (or adding some pictures). See what happens for a week. You may be very surprised by what works and what does not.
If you don't have the time or talent to write compelling text, then hire someone to do the job. After all, you don't want your site to wind up in the Website Graveyard, do you?
Remember, a beautiful website is worthless without plenty of 1)targeted visitors; 2) visitors who take action once they get there.

How can I tell if a web page is secure?
Many of us dish out personal information daily on the Internet. This may be hazardous to your financial health if you do not know how to tell if a web page is secure.
Be aware of these facts:
When you put information into a "form" on a web page, the transmission passes through many computers before it reaches its desired destination. Remember this is most often common text that anyone can read.
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) makes encryption possible so people cannot read your text until it reaches the intended destination. So, if a web page has an active SSL session it is secure. Every time you give any personal information the page should be secured or you may have problems.
How can you tell if the page is secure?
Look at the page URL in the address bar. Usually you see "http://" at the beginning. If the page is secured you will see "https://".
You've seen those "lock" icons, right. They are found outside of the viewing area. Internet Explorer will show it on the lower right of the browser window. Double click on that icon to make sure someone is not trying to fake you out by showing a fake lock icon that has no value.

One of the newer and best ways to brand your business is via video marketing. I heard YouTube is getting about a billion searches a day. Is that possible? Whatever the actual number is, if you have not started to make videos, then it's time to pull out your camera. Unfortunately, while many website owners are skilled at creating valuable video content, they forget to optimize this content for the search engines. This is a mistake as search engine spiders can index video content, if you know how to show them the way.
#1 Video Tagging
Most video-sharing sites allow you to create "tags." Tags are simply keywords that describe video contents. This tagging makes it easier for people to find your content and it makes your content easier for spiders to index. Make sure to use all the tags you can.
#2 Video Titles
Give your video a title. Titles serve two purposes, like an attention grabbing headline they capture the attention of your prospect and when you use keywords, they can enhance your search engine rankings.
#3 Categorize your videos
Video sharing sites typically require you to place your video in a specific category. The more specific you can categorize your video, the better.
#4 Create a relevant file name.
If you are hosting a video on your own site, of course still take the time to title and tag your videos and take your SEO one-step further by creating a relevant file name for your video with keywords.
#5 Only publish one video per web page.
Experts recommend only publishing one video per webpage with a simple text title and description. Optimize the page where you publish your video for both video search engines and content search engines by using meta tags for the content of the page. They also recommend creating separate video site maps, which can be submitted to video and content search engines alike.
#6 Use keyword optimized anchor text if you link to the video from other pages of your Web site.
#7 Consider Using YouTube Suggest to Generate Keywords
At this point you’re probably familiar with many of the content keyword tools, however for video optimizing, many experts recommend using YouTube’s Suggest tool. Because Google owns YouTube, it works much like the Google Suggest tool. Per the YouTube Blog, “A query suggestions option is now available for search. To opt in, click the "advanced" link next to the search button, then choose "Display query suggestions as I type" from the search settings. As you type in your search terms a menu will appear with suggested results to choose from to help you more quickly find the videos you're looking for. On the search results page you'll also get an additional list of recommended searches by clicking on any of the terms listed next to the new "Also try" menu.
Video content is interactive content and therefore highly regarded by visitors. When it’s informative and entertaining it can be one of the most valuable forms of content on a website. Optimizing it for the search engines just makes sense. Utilize these seven steps to make sure your video content is indexed by the search engines.
It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking more about the search engines than your visitors (customers). After all, you want your website to be found in the search engines.
However focusing entirely on your search engine results is a mistake because search engines don’t buy your products or services, they don’t click on your ads and affiliate links and they don’t contribute directly to your bottom line – customers do.
This is why it’s essential that you write your content for your audience first and the search engines second. This, however, presents a conundrum because sometimes it’s difficult to combine the two. Keywords don’t always fit into an article or blog post naturally.
Research your keywords and keyword phrases. Choose one to focus on in your article and then set it aside.
Write your content, keeping your main keyword topic in mind, without even thinking about keywords and keyword phrases. For example, if your keyword phrase is, “How to housetrain a puppy,” then you’ll write an article about how to housetrain a puppy however as you’re writing it, you’re not worrying about if you’re using the keyword phrase or not. Your entire focus is on writing a quality article for your audience.
Working in your keywords. Once your article or blog post has been written, then it’s time to go back with your keyword at the ready. Read through your article and insert this keyword or keyword phrase where it seems to fit naturally. Keep in mind the fact that search engines are also looking for relevant words so if you’re writing about puppy housebreaking, you can also use housetraining and potty training occasionally to break up the monotony and help the search engines recognize the relevance of your article.
When inserting your primary keyword or keyword phrase keep in mind the places the search engine spiders are going to look: headline, subheadings, first paragraph, last paragraph, article body.
When using your keywords aim for a density of about three to seven percent. Anymore and search engines might recognize your content as being keyword stuffed. To determine percentage simply take the number of times you use your keyword and divide it by the total words. Therefore, if you have a 450 word article and you use your keyword 18 times you have a keyword density of four percent.
Once you’ve completed your article, read it aloud to see if it sounds natural. This is one of the best ways to evaluate it. Remember to keep your audience in mind first and the search engines second – this strategy will always pay off.

There is one common denominator for all websites and blogs that want to increase their targeted visitors - they need incoming links. Why? Because without them it is most difficult to get high search engine positions.
Here are some ways to gather incoming links:
1. Write good articles and submit them to Ezine Articles.com and GoArticles.com. In your author's box, link back to as many pages within your website as possible. It is not smart to keep linking back to the main website page because, I hear, that one is enough from any one source. That means you could link to your main page from both article directories, but after that link to interior pages.
2. Backup your website efforts with a nice BLOG. You can make your blog be a DoFollow blog and this will help push some juice toward your website. Blogs also make excellent places to direct your friends on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. If people get to know and like you, they are more apt to check out and read other things you offer.
3. Post comments on DoFollow blogs. If you post a good comment people will click the link you provide. They may actually buy something from you if you are posting in blogs related to your niche. But all blog comments will improve your link count to your website.
4. Ask other site owners to link to your site. Offer them a nice article or somethng else of value.

I am referring to the comments section of the blog. It is important that your good comments (the ones with value) get Google recognition. In other words, you want Google to follow the link back to your website. (linkback)
So, a brainstorm. Google "how to make Blogger a DoFollow blog." Using the results from that search I quickly found out how to do it. But doing it took about half an hour.
Why? Because you need to make a change in the HTML of your site wsith Blogger and take out a snippit of code that says "nofollow". It's not that easy to find.
Here is what you need to do: 1. go to your dashboard-->Layout-->Edit HTML-->check Expand Widget Templates, There you will see the HTML code. About 1/3 the way down you will see rel='nofollow'
Take out the rel='nofollow' code and save.
There you have it.

Lately I've had the MISfortune of needing to drive on the LA freeway system a couple days a week. Trust me, I am really stressed out by that activity.
Like the guy who came up behind me this morning at 6:15 am (it was still dark) with his headlights on the bright setting. He tailgated me for a few miles. I am very concerned with tailgaters who, I think, are the cause of many accidents.
Most of the drivers (like most people everywhere) are kind and considerate though most think the speed limit is 80 mph. Some of them are just a**holes.
The problem is that I was in the car pool lane and, by law, you are prohibted from crossing the double yellow lines that mark the lane until you reach an exit point. So, what the hell was I supposed to do? I was already going 75 mph.
This jerk was so worked up he went around me on the right side, crossing the double yellow twice to accomplish his silly and stupid action.
But I had the last laugh. In 5 minutes time I was driving right behind that lunatic when the traffic slowed down. I controlled myself to not honk and give him the skronski salute (middle finger).
If you are stressed, don't be that guy. It's just not good for business nor your physical health from so many aspects.

If you want to really make your article "SELL" then you've got to craft the perfect RESOURCE BOX. This is the "author bio" that is below your article body and it's also known as your "SIG" (short for SIGnature).
Here are the essential items that should be in your RESOURCE BOX:
* Your Name: You'd be amazed at how many folks forget to include their name in the RESOURCE BOX. Your name and optional title should be the first thing in your resource box.
* Your Website Address: in valid URL form. Example: http://Your-Company-Name.com/
* Your Elevator Pitch: This is 1 to 3 sentences that encapsulates the essence of what makes you and your offering unique. Also known as your USP (Unique Selling Proposition).
* Your Call To Action: You've got them warmed up and now it's time to lead them to BUY from you or visit your website. This is where you "Ask For The Sale." Best to only give (1) specific call to action.
Here are some optional items you could include in your RESOURCE BOX:
* Your Ezine Subscription Address: While getting your interested visitor to surf your website is nice, capturing their email address can help you begin the confidence/trust process. If you're going to do this strategy, include a URL for your ezine subscription address and do not use an email address for the "join" address.
* Your Contact Information: Such as your business phone number or how to reach you for interviews or your press/media kit. Keep in mind that article marketing is a timeless strategy and you may not have an easy ability to retract what you put in your article once it hits major distribution.
* A Free Report: This could also be part of your call to action or your free bonus report that further enhances your credibility as the expert on the topic of your article.
* Your email autoresponder: I'm not a big fan of this strategy due to the fact that spammers will text-extract your autoresponder address and add it to their spam list. Perhaps this strategy was best for the 1990's and has now run its course.
* An anchor URL that is related to one keyword or keyword phrase that you want to build SEO strength for. Example: if I wanted to build search engine relevance/strength for the term "Article Marketing," I'd link up that term in my resource box to my website. This is an intermediate to advanced level strategy and should not be abused by over-doing it. Keep it simple.
What NOT to include in your RESOURCE BOX:
* A listing of every website you own. There is no faster way to dilute your credibility than by posting a half dozen irrelevant URLs that have nothing to do with each other. Best to only post ONE URL that is related to the topic of your article.
* A listing of every accomplishment you've achieved to date. No one cares. Keep your resource box brief and to the point. Yes, your resource box should be benefit oriented so that the reader finds value in reading it rather than your ego being justified.
* Advertisements or pitches for products that are not relevant to the topic of your article.
* Keep the size of your resource box so that it's no larger than 15% of your total article size. Too often I see resource boxes that are 50% of the size of the total article and this is abusive.
Your Perfect Resource Box Conclusion:
The BODY of your article is where you "GIVE" and the RESOURCE BOX is where you get to "TAKE" for your article marketing gift of information. The resource box is the "currency of payment" you receive for giving away your article. Be sure to include your name, website address, your unique selling proposition as briefly as possible and a simple call to action.
